In short

The income statement (IB60) shows your aggregate income for one year and is the official proof of income for freelancers. You download it free of charge in Mijn Belastingdienst; the latest year only becomes available after your income tax return has been filed, usually within a week.

  • The IB60 can be downloaded free of charge in Mijn Belastingdienst with DigiD.
  • The amount is your aggregate income, after the entrepreneur's allowance and SME profit exemption.
  • The latest year is available after your return has been filed.
  • Years 2012 to 2019 are requested through the tax information line.

An employee shows a payslip and an employer's statement when someone asks about their income. As a freelancer you do not have those. Your income is in your income tax return, and the official proof of it is the income statement, also known as IB60. Landlords, municipalities, housing associations and other agencies ask for it. This article explains how to download the statement, when the latest year becomes available and what to do if something is wrong.

What is an IB60?

The IB60 is a statement from the tax authorities with your registered income for one calendar year. It is intended for organisations that have no access to government income data themselves. Among other things it shows your aggregate income: your income from work and home, substantial interest and savings and investments combined. For an entrepreneur that is profit after the entrepreneur's allowance and SME profit exemption, plus any other income.

That amount is therefore not your turnover, nor your profit before deductions. Anyone unaware of that difference is sometimes surprised by a low income on paper; see turnover, profit and income.

How to download the statement

You download statements for recent years yourself in Mijn Belastingdienst. At the time of writing that covers 2020 to 2024, and 2025 once your return for that year has been processed.

  1. Log in to Mijn Belastingdienst with DigiD.
  2. Choose Download income statement for the year you need.
  3. Save or print the PDF.

The latest year: file your return first

As an entrepreneur you must file a return, and the income statement for a year only becomes available after you have filed that return. Usually you can download it within a week afterwards, but in busy periods it can take up to three months. An agency asking for your 2025 income now will therefore only get it once your 2025 return is in.

Is your return on an extension through your bookkeeper? Then discuss in good time that you need the statement, so the return can be brought forward. How the return itself works is explained in income tax return for freelancers.

When is the IB60 not enough?

The IB60 shows what you declared, not what the tax authorities ultimately determine. If your assessment is adjusted later, an agency may ask for the final assessment instead. If someone wants a picture of your current year, they often also ask for your latest annual figures or an interim overview from your bookkeeper.

For benefits you usually do not need the IB60: the benefits agency retrieves your income itself. It is about organisations outside government, and government organisations without a link to the tax authorities.

Frequently asked questions

What does an income statement cost?

Nothing. You download it for free in Mijn Belastingdienst or request it free of charge through the tax information line.

Why does it show a lower amount than my profit?

Because the IB60 shows your aggregate income, after the self-employed deduction, starter's deduction and SME profit exemption. That is lower than the profit in your annual figures.

I have just filed my return. When can I download the statement?

Usually within a week. In busy periods it can take up to three months.
