Questions by sector

Construction

Not always. As a subcontractor for a main contractor the reverse-charge scheme often applies and you don't charge VAT. For private clients you usually charge 21% (or 9% for certain work on older homes). We determine per job what applies.

Think of tools, machines, branded work clothing, your company van, fuel, insurance and phone. Larger investments are depreciated over several years and often qualify for extra investment deduction. We make sure you leave nothing behind.

On your invoice you put no VAT amount, but the text 'VAT reverse-charged' plus your client's VAT number. They then declare the VAT. We process this correctly in your bookkeeping and return.

It's not mandatory, but with changing VAT rates, the reverse-charge scheme and many deductible costs it's easy to make mistakes or miss benefits. We take it off your hands for a fixed monthly fee.

Healthcare

Much care is VAT-exempt, especially activities under the BIG Act. But additional services like training or non-medical coaching may be taxed. We determine per service whether VAT applies.

Think of travel to clients (0.23 per kilometre), work clothing, training, professional literature and your phone. If you meet the hours criterion you're also entitled to the self-employed deduction and possibly the starter's deduction.

If you work long-term for one institution, the tax authorities check critically whether you're genuinely independent. Multiple clients, your own materials and clear agreements help. We think along about how to substantiate your position.

We handle your bookkeeping, quarterly VAT, annual return and the correct VAT treatment of your services. We also advise on deductions and your position as an independent worker, so you can focus on care.

Taxi

Passenger transport by taxi falls under the low 9% rate. Your costs like fuel and maintenance are often 21%, so you regularly get VAT back. We make sure your return is correct.

Yes. Commissions and costs you pay to ride apps are business costs you may deduct. Keep the platform's settlements; we process them in your bookkeeping.

Fuel, maintenance, tyres, insurance, road tax and the depreciation of your car are deductible. If you use the car almost exclusively for business, a watertight mileage record can avoid the addition to taxable income.

Because there are many cash trips, the tax authorities check turnover strictly. An accurate trip and turnover record prevents them from estimating your turnover. We keep this watertight.

Security

Yes. Recognisable security clothing, your walkie-talkie, flashlight and safety shoes are business costs. The costs for your security pass and screening are also deductible.

Yes. Diplomas, certificates and training you need to be allowed to work are deductible because they relate directly to your profession. We keep track of what you spent.

If you work a lot through one security company, watch your position. Multiple clients, your own equipment and clear agreements strengthen your entrepreneurship. We think along with you.

With nights, weekends and changing clients a good time record is important, both for your invoices and the hours criterion. We make sure everything is recorded neatly and verifiably.

E-commerce

If you sell to private individuals in other EU countries and exceed the 10,000 euro threshold, you charge VAT according to your customer's country. Via the OSS scheme you declare this all at once. We arrange it for you.

With the One Stop Shop you declare all foreign EU VAT in one return with the Dutch tax authorities, instead of registering in each country separately. We handle the return and watch the thresholds.

Think of software and subscriptions (Shopify, WooCommerce), platform fees from Bol or Amazon, shipping costs, stock purchasing, marketing and your laptop. We process it neatly so you miss nothing.

Unsold stock isn't yet a cost; at year-end you count your stock to determine your profit correctly. With dropshipping the distance-sales rules apply. We keep it clear.

Education

Legally regulated education and tutoring that connects to regular education is often exempt. General training and workshops are usually taxed at 21%. We determine per service what applies.

Teaching materials, books, software, a laptop or projector and training to keep up your profession are deductible. If you meet the hours criterion, preparation and marking also count towards the self-employed deduction.

If you teach a lot for one school, the tax authorities look critically at your independence. Multiple clients and your own teaching materials help. We advise you on how to substantiate your position.

We handle your bookkeeping, VAT returns and annual return, and determine the correct VAT treatment of your lessons and training. That way you know everything is correct and can focus on teaching.
